fred parra
you don’t have to know fred long to he has always had a love for music. whether it was rap, hip hop, disco, funk, or old school he likes and
has to have a lot of it! in 1997 he discovered house music when he was introduced to a group of people–people that would soon become an
extension of his family. most of these people he met hanging out at the only record store in his hometown of monterey “the krate.”
particularly, owner jesse gonzalez helped expand fred’s education on the music. through jesse he met ivan ruiz who hosted the only electronic
music radio show on the central coast. from there, fred and his new family of friends attended some of electronic music’s biggest west-coast
massives and clubs: how sweet it is, monster massive, metropolis, cyber fest, moonshine over america, community at 1015 on tuesdays,
organic, kit kat at the end up on thursday nights, funky techno tribe parties, stompy, the gathering, juju beats. these and many other
underground events helped influence where he would later take his dj’ing. in 1998 while at 1015’s friday night party nikita he watched an
unfamiliar dj play some of the, dopest music he had heard any dj play, turns out that dj was dj sneak! it was then that fred knew he found the
music for which he had been searching for. in early 2000 fred started promoting for parties in the monterey and santa cruz area along with
friends and local legends dj’s jesse gonzalez, ivan ruiz, and robert solorio.
in 2003 fred finally got the urge to start spinning records. two years later he was given a residency at the now legendary monterey monthly
house party mint. fred, along with friends jesse gonzalez and ivan ruiz, were the team that brought the only real monthly party to the monterey
area. mint was the only party to bring top notch, world class talent. as a result, fred has had the chance to play with some of house music’s biggest
dj’s: mark farina, derrick carter, bad boy bill, dj heather, doc martin, lawnchair generals, rick preston, just to name a few.
fast forwarding to the present and you will see fred is now the host of underground audio on x 103.9 saturday nights 2am-5am (pst). the show is
also available online @ x1039fm.com. underground audio is the premier electronic music show on the central coast. specializing in underground house
music, fred with resident dj’s ivan ruiz, and jesse gonzalez continue to spread the knowledge of house music as only they know how.
you can also catch fred every friday night in the glass house at club octane at the weekly party souls united with a variety of local and out of town
talent. souls united is going on its second year and has no signs of slowing down.
